Mobile AR Lab in NYU Tandon Research Expo 2016!
2016 NYU TANDON SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING RESEARCH EXPO
http://mobilearlab.bxmc.poly.edu/
http://engineering.nyu.edu/events/2016/04/27/2016-nyu-tandon-school-engineering-research-expo
The highly interactive expo will showcase dozens of the most promising and exciting research projects from every academic department, as well as exhibits from the school’s Center for K-12 STEM Education, which is dedicated to boosting science, technology, engineering, and math education in New York City’s public schools.
NYU Dean of Engineering Katepalli R. Sreenivasan will welcome the public to the event to view the results of the school’s undergraduate, graduate, and faculty research. “This is an opportunity to show the scope and importance of our work, especially to young visitors who might not have considered a career in a STEM discipline,” he said. “Engineers and applied scientists develop practical solutions for critical problems faced by society, and our hope is that the work demonstrated at the Research Expo will light a spark of interest in students to become future generations of creative inventors, innovators, and technology entrepreneurs.”
Vikram Kapila, a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering and one of the organizers of the event added, “The Research Expo will be eye-opening and enjoyable for everyone, from the most seasoned technologists to the youngest visitors. From robotics, to augmented reality, to the latest in bioengineering, the Research Expo will demonstrate just how many incredible developments are taking place right here in Downtown Brooklyn at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering.”

AR LAB IN THE PRESS >> Digiday >> NYU TAKES ADMITTED ENGINEERING STUDENTS ON A VIRTUAL TOUR OF MARS
For the Class of 2020 at New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering, the sky is really the limit. The school is taking its latest crop of newly admitted students on a virtual tour of Mars, with 2,000 students within the U.S. receiving a VR cardboard device named Tandon Vision alongside their admission packets. The device is accompanied by instructions for downloading a smartphone app that the school has specifically created to enable the experience. It’s a nod not only to the growing popularity of both virtual and augmented reality, but also lets NYU use the technology as a powerful tool for engaging with with both newly admitted as well as prospective students in the years ahead. “It’s really important for us to engage with both students and their parents when they are trying to make a decision,” Elizabeth Ensweiler, Tandon’s director of enrollment management, told Digiday.

VIDEO: Tandon’s Cardboard VR Goggles Take Class of 2020 to Mars
April 22, 2016
Earlier this week, WSN reported on Tandon’s cardboard virtual reality googles that it’s giving out to admitted students in the class of 2020. Meant to be paired with the Tandon Vision app, which can be downloaded on Apple’s App Store and is the true innovation of the two, the creation is just the latest in a string of virtual reality developments from NYU’s Brooklyn-based engineering school. Now, the WSN video team is here to show you what all the hype is about.

Speaking at New Media Technologies and Documentary Design April 26th

http://www.dctvny.org/workshops/clinics/new-media-technologies-and-documentary-design
New Media Technologies and Documentary Design
Yet to be fully undertaken by filmmakers, explore the possibilities of building alternate documentary narratives using various digital media softwares. Discuss concepts of experimental storytelling and how documentary can be enhanced with dramaturgy, lighting, sound, and scenography to recreate a moment in time. Explore site specificity, considering how the structures that surround your projection become a part of the story you’re telling. This workshop poses more questions than answers, and challenges filmmakers to expand their canvas!
Size: 12 students | Duration: 3 hrs
Materials: All you need to bring is yourself! Unlike a large panel discussion, this clinic will offer invaluable knowledge from a working artist in an intimate round-table discussion. Curriculum will be provided in advance and available on eReaders during the workshop.
All DCTV Workshops have limited enrollment and require pre-registration.
By enrolling you verify you have read and agree to our Workshop Policies.
