SITE
ARCHITECTURE OMI:
Architecture Omi is a program conceived to facilitate projects exploring the intersection of
architecture, art and landscape. It offers a pristine natural site of approximately 60 acres on
the over 400 acre campus of the Omi International Arts Center. The program envisions the
development and production of physical installations and theoretical musings in a laboratory-
style setting.
AUGMENTED REALITY: A Description of the Concept:
Augmented Reality can be viewed on 3-G or better smartphones through the download of an
app by Layar the world’s largest mobile A/R platform with over 1M active users . Pointing one’s
phone camera at a specific location and looking through the app, one can view uploaded site
specific information in a variety of media including 3D models, text, audio and video files.
PEELING LAYERS OF SPACE OUT OF THIN AIR:
Architecture Omi is commissioning architects to create 3-dimensional architectural projects
which will be overlayed into specific locations on the grounds of the Omi Campus. These aug-
mented reality “visions” will appear on the smartphones as fully executed architectonic medi-
tations which will explore a variety of issues concerning architecture and landscape. As one
walks around the OMI fields using the screen of their phone as a lens to view these architec-
tonic apparitions, each project will appear scaled and fully realized from all angles of sight.
The architects were chosen based upon their prominence in pursuing a visionary approach
towards architecture and their commitment to realizing unprecedented modes of expression
in both the built and academic realms. This show, groundbreaking in conception will un-
doubtedly be widely influential to both the public and the profession.
